Emmanuel School, Exeter ~ Curriculum

Curriculum

Morning Curriculum
Emmanuel School has adopted the system of Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) as an effective alternative to GCSE courses. ACE allows pupils to work at their own pace. During the morning sessions pupils work in ‘offices’, using a flag system to alert the Learning Centre Supervisor or Classroom Monitor when they need help.

Under the overall guidance of the Learning Centre Supervisor, students set their own daily and weekly targets. We are proud of the fact that Emmanuel students learn to be responsible at an early age and that the ability to forward-plan their own work gives them a distinct advantage when they move on to further education.

The ACE core curriculum is made up of five core subjects:

  • Maths
  • English
  • Science
  • Word Building ~ handwriting, spelling and grammar
  • Social Studies ~ history, geography and Bible

Pupils are expected to complete around sixty-six booklets annually with each one building on the previous one.

The core curriculum is enhanced and expanded with a wide variety of extension and elective subjects. These include Spanish, Health, Art, Music, and Business Studies.

The students are also expected to complete a typing course such as Clait or ECDL.

During their final year, pupils will have completed one of the International Certificates of Christian Education (ICCE) ranging from basic through to advanced according to the student’s capabilities. All ICCE certificates are qualifications recognised by many colleges throughout the United Kingdom, as well as UCAS (the University and College Admission Service).

For more information on ACE, please follow the link to Christian Education Europe or request a copy of our school prospectus by clicking here.
