Emmanuel School, Exeter ~ A Day In The Life of the School

A Day In The Life of the School

Mrs Bastone

The school gates are open between 8am and 8.15am when pupils begin to arrive for the day.  The Principal, Head Teacher and Administrator are already in by this time, preparing for the school day and meeting to pray together.

The bell rings at 8.40am for registration, after which we either attend a whole school assembly, or a learning centre devotional time, during which everyone recites their monthly Bible memory verse passage.

The students work on individual PACEs every morning between 9.15am and 12.45pm.  Both general and specific (maths) learning support is available to the students.  Appropriate daily goals are set by the students and checked by the learning centre supervisers,  who encorage the students, help them with any difficulties, pray with them, check their work and generally oversee them.

During the students breaks their tests are marked, congratulations certificates are prepared, and next PACE books sorted and distributed.

During the mornings our pre-school class takes place

By the end of each morning the students should have completed about twenty pages in their paces, although this varies with each student depending upon the difficulty of the work, the ability of the child, the speed at which each individual works best etc. All the work should have been scored by the student and checked by either the superviser or a monitor, and then new goals are pencilled in ready for the next day.

During most lunch hours the children are supervised as they eat their lunch, after which tables need to be wiped, chairs stacked and floors hoovered in preparation for afternoon lessons.

In the afternoon,  group lessons take place - a broad spectrum of lessons based on some of the areas covered by the National Curriculum.  English, for example,  may include poetry, short stories, drama, media studies, oral work and essay writing.
